Non Payment Of Salaries: National Assembly Members Donate 220 Bags Of Rice To Kogi Workers
The first batch of 220 bags of rice earlier pledged by the National Assembly Members to assist Kogi State workers owing to the non payment of their salaries have been received by officials of the Nigeria Labour Congress.
Receiving the consignment on Friday, leaders of Various Labour Organizations made up of Com. Meliga Obaka, Ranti Ojo, and Isah Abubakar, thanked the National Assembly for redeeming their pledge.
Comrade Obaka, Vice Chairman, Kogi NLC, who spoke on behalf of the State Labour Union, said “the rice received would go a long way in alleviating the sufferings of state workers who as we speak were paid percentages during the Christmas period.”
Com. Obaka decried the fate of workers in the state, disclosing that the NLC would come with its position on the recently paid percentage to workers in the state soon, noting that the labour union was not consulted before the wicked decision was taken.
Making the presentation to the State labour leaders, Hon Bala Abubakar Sadiq, the Legislative Aide to Senator Dino Melaye, Senator Representing Kogi West Senatorial District of Kogi State, said the rice donated was in fulfilment of the earlier pledge made by the Members of the National Assembly, owing to non payment of salaries, ranging between five and twenty months by the state government.
He disclosed that the 220 bags so far received is the first batch of delivery, noting that 1900 bags of rice was the total number of bags of rice pledged by the National Assembly Members.
He maintained that the remaining consignment will soon be delivered.
Meanwhile, Senator Dino Melaye, who facilitated the donation of the rice through his colleagues at the national assembly has assured that other consignment would be presented to the state workers as soon as they were ready.
