Reactions Trail Adeleke’s Death
By Olabode Abolaji
The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) Prof. Wale Oladipo has described the death of the former chieftain of the party, and incumbent Senator representing Osun West Senatorial District, Senator Isiaka Adeleke as a colossal loss to Osun State, and Nigeria at large.
Oladipo, who stated this on Sunday, said it was one death too many for Nigeria as a country.
According to him, Adeleke’s death had created a “terribly sad moment for entire Yoruba race and Nigerians at large.”
“This is terribly sad, Adeleke was a truly reliable leader of men, we lost a political giant, the politics of this state would never be the same again,” “Oladipo opined.
In the same vein, a former Publicity Secretary of the PDP, and elder statesman, Chief Abiola Ogundokun has expressed shock over the death of Adeleke, saying it had created a wide vacuum in the political space of Osun State.
Ogundokun said Adeleke was a political pundit of sort, who had carved a niche for himself in Nigerian political environment.
He therefore prayed for the repose of his soul, and fortitude for his family to bear the irreparable loss.
Also, the social media was awash early on Sunday with the story as many especially Osun State indigenes paid tributes to the Late Asiwaju of Edeland.
On Facebook, one of its users Agboola Lateef who is a journalist with the state broadcasting corporation wrote on his timeline “Last week in Ikirun,I interviewed him on the Executive/Legislative brouhaha in Nigeria and my last question was asked to know his next political ambition,to which he answered that ONLY GOD,MY CREATOR WOULD DECIDE MY FATE… Adieu Alhaji Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke, the first executive Governor of Osun state,Asiwaju of Ede land,Oganla of Ikirunland. O digba!.”
Also, one of the nominees sent by Governor Rauf Aregbesola to the state executive council, Omowaiye Oluremi wrote on his timeline “Senator Isiaka Adeleke is gone. Its a black Sunday for us in the State of Osun.”
Another of those fascinating tributes is that of a Veteran Broadcaster in the state, Taiwo Ojewande who said “Death! death!! Death!!! Why are you so wicked? Why at this time that you have to throw your cudgel to us in this State? Why the Senator? Why now? Why make today black?
Well, death is unavoidable!
It is a debt that we have to pay at any point in time!
He travelled and got to his own bus stop; that is where he dropped off to meet his creator.
He has left this sinful world to leave us! He has gone to where there is no hunger, no recession, no weeping, no gnashing of teeth! Let us all check ourselves, what is it that we have taken so passionately? I pray the Lord will comfort members of his immediate family. The Lord will comfort the Governor and the people of the State of Osun, the country in general. I pray that his soul will find rest and peace in Aljahnah Fidaous. Good night the Asiwaju of Ede land.”
Adeleke, the first Executive Governor of Osun State, and 3-term senator of the federal republic of Nigeria died early this morning at a private hospital located at Ota-efun, in Osogbo metropolis.
According to an exclusive information reaching CityMirrorNews, the corpse has been returned to an hospital in Osogbo for the deceased’s autopsy on the order of his brother, Deji Adeleke after which burial is expected around 4pm on Sunday evening.
