Group Begins Medical Treatment For 50,000 People In Osun
A Non Governmental Organisation, Favour, Kindness and Grace Foundation, on Wednesday, began treatment of 50,000 indigenes in Osun West Senatorial District.
CityMirrorNews reports that the medical outreach was intended to cater for the health of the people of the senatorial district.
The medical outreach commenced at Gbongan town, the headquarters of Ayedaade Local Government and about 1,500 people received treatment on different ailments ranging from malaria, typhoid and other general health matters.
Also, there were tests and treatments on blood sugar and blood pressure for the patients. The doctors also conducted prostrate cancer checks and eye tests and sensitize the patients on adequate nutrition. Drugs were given to patients based on their conditions.
Speaking with journalists during the kick off of the treatment in Gbongan, Ayedaade Local Government Area of Osun State, the coordinator of the foundation, Mr. Goke Olatunji, said the screening was for malaria, typhoid, prostrate cancer and eye challenges.
He explained that the passion of the facilitator for good living of the people of his community made the NGO to give him full support.
Olatunji disclosed that the foundation have the backings of faculty of clinical sciences of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, who he said have pledged support to the foundation.
Speaking with journalists, Mr. Dotun Babayemi who is a chieftain of All Progressives Congress and facilitator of the treatment, said the gesture was a way of making return to his people.
Babayemi said he established the foundation to assist the less privileged and that the free medica treatment is an annual event and that he has been doing it in the past five years.
He said the treatment was purely humanitarian service to the people of his Senatorial District, maintaining that no political gain was expected from the gesture.
According to Babayemi, “there is a limit to what government can do, therefore, we need to contribute our own to the good living of our people.
“We are projecting over 50,000 people in the next three months within the Osun West Senatorial District. We have an agreement with the health sciences department to segregate people with serious challenge and recommend them for surgery if necessary.
He assured by that he would be responsible for any cost that may occur, promising that he would not relent in giving back to his community.
The leader of the medical team, a Pshycatrist from OAU, Dr. Celestine Mume, explained that the geature was timely considering the number of people that have registered for the past programme.
He noted people are suffering with health challenges and could not afford the cost, saying “support by philanthropist like this would complement the efforts of the government and reduce untimely and preventable death in the society.
He expressed concern over the way people are using traditional medicine to cure disease due to lack of money to pay hospital bill.
One of the doctors from the faculty of Clinical Sciences, OAU, Dr Celestine Mume said the medical outreach was intended to cater for the health of the people. He commended the Foundation for the gesture.
