PDP Crisis: Rep Urges PDP Leadership to Jettison Differences, Settle Out of Court
A member of the House of Representatives, Albert Abiodun-Adeogun, has implored the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to do away with anything capable of jeopardising the soaring strength of the party from returning to power comes 2019.
He canvassed unity and love between and among the leaders and members of the party as the only panacea to reposition the party and return it back to government.
Adeogun, who represents Ife Central/East/South Federal Constituency Ife in Osun at the lower chamber of the National Assembly, identified out of court settlement as the way out of the crisis currently bedeviling the party.
He said court judgments will not only provide a temporary solution to the crisis, but a major setback to the peace moves, saying “legal resolution is not the best option to settle political conflicts”.
The federal lawmaker also posited that majority of the party members are behind the Ahmed Markarfi led Caretaker Committee adding that “they (Markafi’s camps) would seek redress at the Supreme Court.
According to him, court verdict for Sheriff cannot settle PDP crisis but rather brings temporary setback.
“What can only be done preferably is out of court settlement, Markarfi group has 90 majority of National Assembly members and the PDP structure nationwide.
“We will appeal, yes we will. Ondo case was a major setback and we will not want anything to stop us again”, he added.
The politician alleged that Senator Ali Modu Sheriff led other factional group of the party had used several means to cause disaffection among the leaders and members of the party for selfish interest.
“Sheriff knew he was out for mischief and would soon realize that his bid to kill the PDP is a fail.
“Committed party men should not support destruction of PDP because of selfish ambition”, Adeogun warned.
It would be recalled that the Soji Adagunodo faction of the PDP in Osun State who had declared loyalty to the Sheriff faction however hailed Friday’s Appeal Court judgment describing it as the end to the crisis.
The faction in a statement also called for true reconciliation among party lines, noting that the time for unity has come.
Adagunodo noted that what party members need to do was to be more in unison in their collective goal to take over from the All Progressives Congress, APC especially in Osun next year.
“As a people, a group and as a party, we should embrace the things that will unite us and do away with the vices that divide us.
“The recent court ruling is a victory for all and we should see this moment as an opportunity to begin again”, Adagunodo stressed.
