Bisi Akande Vindicated On ‘Corrupt Politicians Using Money To Manipulate The National Security Agencies’

Some three weeks ago, the first National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former governor of Osun State, Chief Bisi Akande warned Nigerians as follows:

Certain Nigerian leaders, having been blindfolded by corruption, assume the possibility of using money in manipulating the national security agencies to intimidate, suppress and hold down certain ethnic nationalities or playing one ethnic nationality against the other with a view to undermining the constitution and perversely upturning the rule of law. To avoid the ugly consequences of letting President Buhari’s ailments throw Nigeria into confusion, I am urging all Nigerians to begin to pray for his divine healing and perfect recovery.

Let me warn today that those who wish to harvest political gains out of the health of the President are mistaken. This is not Nigeria of 1993. We are in a new national and global era of constitutionalism and order. We hope Nigerians have enough patience to learn from history

My greatest fear, however, is that the country should not be allowed to slide into anarchy and disorder of a “monumental proportion”.

Shortly after this alert, the Nigerian Senate reversed the idea of making the Acting President a coordinator of government. And now, the Chief of Army staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai is warning the soldiers from hobnobbing with politicians because the Army was reported to have received information that some individuals had been approaching some officers and soldiers.

Now that Akande’s prophetic instincts are being vindicated by the Senate and the Army, Nigerians must be wary of the Akande’s “certain Nigerian leaders being blindfolded by corruption and using money to manipulate our security agencies” to undermine our fragile democracy and upturning our delicate rule of laws.

The warning is a clear indication that some greedy and corrupt politicians with inordinate ambition are making sinister move to plunge Nigeria into chaos.

The questions to ask is that: why is it difficult to arrest and prosecute the soldiers and officers and other security agents found wanting in the discharge of their duties? Is the warning a decoy from what is on ground? Is somebody or institution trying to cover up something?

Nigerians should be on the alert and sensitive to the activities of the political officer holders and the security agencies. A stitch in time saves nine.
