Kwarans Commend Gov. Ahmed For Intrroduction Of Mass Transit

Some commuters of Maigida Soludero Mass Transit have commended the governor of Kwara State, Dr. Abdulfatai Ahmed for his people oriented gesture.
CityMirrorNews reporter who visited the Maigida Soludero Bus Terminal in Post Office, Ilorin reports that many passengers were happy because the bus in cheaper compare to taxi’s price plying the same route, convenient and fast.
The buses currently ply Post Office- Tanke-University of Ilorin and Post Office-Sango-Eleko-KwaraPoly and Kwara State University routes.
Meanwhile, the Chief Operating Officer of Kwara MSME Bureau, Mr. Segun Soewu while giving update recently said about 5000 passengers were boarding the MST buses weekly in the first month of operation.
Soewu added that number of passengers rose to about 15,000 weekly in the following month as the buses serve students and staff of Kwara Poly, Unilorin and KWASU.
He noted that aside providing affordable and efficient transport service to numerous passengers, MST created employment for many people which include the professionally trained drivers, conductors, ticket issuers and other admin staff.
CityMirrorNews Recalls Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed in June this year inaugurated a N257million mass transit scheme, named “Maigida Soludero Mass Transit Scheme” as part of an effort to alleviate the hardship faced by commuters in the state.
Governor Ahmed was quoted to have said the scheme builds on the existing transports interventions in the state, and is designed to relieve the hardship faced by commuters in the metropolis as well as boost commerce in the state.
According to him, the ten buses currently in the Maigida Soludero Mass Transit Scheme were purchased for the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) through a credit facility provided by the Kwara State Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Bureau.
His Words: “in the coming months, additional credit facilities will be provided to the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) and the Association of Independent Marketers (AIT) to acquire buses that will ply other routes within and outside the state capital, Ilorin.These partnerships with stakeholders in the road transport sector are designed to ensure efficiency of the mass transit scheme through provision of additional buses without depriving transporters of their livelihoods”
