Jobless Man Who Stole Wheel Barrow Sent To Prison In Lagos
It was double tragedy for a 26-year-old jobless man, John Chima who attempted to get engaged meaningfully by looking for work.
It was gathered that the job he had wanted to engage himself in required a wheel barrow, so he stole one after he could not get assistance to buy.
The action has landed him in prison as Chima was caught with the fairly used wheelbarrow and was handed over to the police who arraigned him in court.
The incident happened at Mechanic Village in Isolo, Lagos State where the suspect reportedly stole the item.
It was however gathered that all efforts to resolve the matter at the Aswani Police Station failed as the police insisted that he committed a criminal offence and was liable for prosecution.
The suspect had explained to the police it was not that he really stole it but he needed the wheelbarrow for his work, had no money to buy one and so he took it.
Chima was then brought before Isolo Magistrates court and charged for stealing under the criminal code.
But he pleaded not guilty to the allegation preferred against him.
The prosecutor, Mr Oje Uagbale asked the court to grant Chima bail in such a way he will come to court to face trial in the interest of justice.
The presiding Magistrate, Mr O.A Ogbe granted him bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in the like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody as nobody showed up to bail him at the court.
The matter was adjourned till September 18, 2017 for mention
