Zamfara Governor, Shinkafi, Deputy Dumps PDP, Defects to APC
By Jide Afolabi
Former Zamfara state governor, Mahmud Shinkafi and his deputy, Muktari Anka has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the party under which they won the 2011 governorship election and subsequently defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Alh. Shinkafi Contested the 2015 governorship election under PDP and lost to the incumbent governor Abdulaziz Yari of the APC.
The ex-governor told his supporters in Gusau, Zamfara state capital on Sunday that he decided to join the APC “in order to join hands with the people of the state to develop it”.
CityMirrorNews gathered that Shinkafi defected alongside his running mate in 2015 elections, Madami Dandoto, and Muktari Anka, Shinkafi’s former deputy also attended the meeting.
It is not immediately clear how governor Yari would react to this development given Shinkafi’s status and political structure in the state.
