Illegal Arms Possession: Man Remanded By Court In Osun

An Osun State Magistrates Court sitting in Osogbo, the State capital on Wednesday ordered a 25 year old man, Olayiwola Simiyu to be remanded in Ilesha prisons for allegedly being in possession of live ammunition, kitchen knife and charms.

Police arraigned Simiyu on Wednesday on four counts charge bodering on unlawful possession of live ammunition, kitchen knife charm, felony and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Duro Adekunle told the court that the accused committed the offense on August 16, 2017 at Ilobu in Osun State.

He said the accused unlawfully had in his possession one live ammunition, UTC knife and charms which he could not give satisfactory account on its ownership with lawful authority.

Briefing the court, Inspector Adekunle said the accused on the same day attempted to commit felony to wit stealing.

He explained that the offense committed by the accused contravenes section 8,section 27(i)(b) (iii) of the firearms act cap f. 28 of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 and Section 213, section 430(1) and section 509 of the criminal code cap 34 volume 11.laws of Osun State 2002.

The accused pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The defense counsel, Adeyinka Dada applied for a liberal bail condition for her client.

The magistrate, Mrs Fatimoh Sodamade ordered that the accused be remanded in Ilesha prison custody.

She thereby adjourned the case till Sept 18 for consideration of the bail application.
