Court Sentences Scavenger To 6 Months Imprisonment For Stealing Aluminium Frames

A 20-year-Old scavenger, Yusuf Muhammed was on Thursday sentenced to six months imprisonment by a Magistrates’ Court in Osogbo for stealing aluminium window frames at the resident of one Olasunkanmi in Osogbo.
Magistrate Adenike Olowolagba convicted the accused and sentenced him to six months imprisonment, without an option of fine, after he admitted guilty to the one count charge of stealing proffered against him.
Police Prosecutor, Mr. Mireti Wilson had earlier told the court that the convict, on the 20th of July,2017, at about 3:45pm, at Service Area, Ilobu Road, Osun State, stole a bunch of aluminium frames valued N50,000, property of one Olasunkanmi.
He said the convict, immediately took to his heel, after he succeeded in removing the window frames of his victim and packing them into a sack, before he was apprehended by residents and handed to the Police.
He said the offence the convict committed is contrary to section 381(1) and punishable under section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 vol.11 laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.
The Defense Counsel to the victim, P.O Ofoyeju however humbly pleaded to the court to temper justice with mercy in sentencing his client.
The Magistrate however ruled that the convicted serve a 6months imprisonment punishment for his offence without the option of fine.
