Dr. Adewale Bolorunduro graduated with a Bachelors degree in Engineering from the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife as the best graduate and he got Miccom Award, the Nigeria Society of Engineers Award for the best graduate in the Faculty of Technology and the University Award for the graduate with the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average(CGPA) for the year 1990. He started his Accounting and Business Advisory career with Arthur Andersen & Co. Lagos (Audit and Chartered Accounting firm) in 1991. He subsequently picked up an appointment with Zenith Bank and rose through ranks to become Deputy Manager, Budget, Strategic Planning & Financial Control between 1994 and 1997.
Dr. Wale Bolorunduro travelled abroad and joined Arthur Andersen & Co. Vancouver B.C. Canada in 1997 as a Senior Consultant and later moved to BMO Nesbitt Burns (Investment Banking Group) in 1999 as an Investment Banker (Project Finance-Infrastructures and Energy). He took up a teaching position as a Teaching/Research Associate at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, B.C, Canada in 2001 and subsequently, returned to Zenith Bank Plc, Nigeria as a Senior Manager, Energy Division (Oil & Gas) in 2003. He continued his career at Zenith Bank Plc between 2003 and 2011 in various capacities and he was promoted as a Senior Manager, Energy in 2003, Assistant General Manager in 2004, Deputy General Manager, Group Head, Telecoms & Technologies Businesses (Corporate Banking) in 2005 and as a General Manager, Head of the Infrastructure and Power Sector (Corporate Banking) in 2006. Dr. Bolorunduro also obtained with awards, Masters Degree (Business Management) and PhD degree from the University of British Columbia in Canada in 1999 and 2002 respectively. He later obtained a Masters degree in Corporate Governance from Leeds Business School, United Kingdom in 2009. He has attended numerous courses all over the World such as Wharton Business School Executive Course and has been involved in numerous landmark financial transactions.
Dr. Wale Bolorunduro pioneered construction finance in Telecom industry between 2003 and 2006, and handled many project finance transactions in upstream Oil and Gas, Telecoms, Power and Infrastructures. With his expertise, Osun State floated the first Sukuk bond (Islamic Finance) in Nigeria through the Capital Market and the fund (ijara) is being utilized for the construction of high schools. He ensured his state became pension compliance by implementing pension reforms. He initiated Public Financial Management Reform, through the assistance of EU/World Bank, which will lead to Treasury Single Account (TSA), International Public Sector Accounting System (IPSAS) and Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS). With his expertise in Public Sector Finance, he served as the Commissioner for Finance, Economic Planning and Budget, Osun State (2011 – 2014). He is currently authoring a book on Project Finance: Pitfalls and Solution.
Presently, he is consulting for Ondo State Governor and Akwa Ibom Governor.
Dr Wale Bolorunduro started a Foundation in 2006, while still a banker and before he came into politics. Wale Bolorunduro Foundation provided financial supports for poor people and also caters for indigent (poor) students by providing tuition supports, scholarships and prizes for Osun students. This was started with a working capital injection of over N20m in 2006. Over the years, the educational sector of the foundation has provided opportunities for over 50 students of Osun and for the past seven years, a quarter of a million Naira is used annually to promote excellence in Ilesa Grammar School by providing annual prizes to the best students of Ilesa Grammar School. Annual lump sum Payment of medical bills of patients, who are “imprisoned” by the hospitals because of their inability to pay their bills after treatments. These are mostly single mothers and children.
In June 2016, close to half a million naira (N500,000) was spent to pay medical bills and to release poor patients to go home
In Sept 2016, Donation of Modern Water supply system to Wesley Guild Hospital Emergency/Accidents Department which cost the Wale Bolorunduro Foundation the sum of One (1) Million Naira. It comprises of modern well, pumping, piping system, overhead tank and electrical powering mains.
In 2012, few months after his appointment as a Commissioner of Finance, Wale Bolorunduro through its Foundation bankrolled the Free Eyes Screening, Free Eyes Surgeries and Free Supply of Eyes Glasses. The beneficiaries were the people of the Ife/Ijesa Senatorial Zone. For the eyes surgery: almost 200 people were examined, free surgery for 50 people and free glasses were given to 130 poor people. This free service to humanity cost Bibiire, personally and his Foundation over N15 Million (Fifteen Million Naira).
In 2009, on his own, he donated a Brand New Transformer cited in Obi Daramola Street, Ilesa. This was before he came into Government of Osun.
Dr. Wale Bolorunduro is a strong member of the APC in Osun state.
In 2003, he was a Federal Government delegate to South Africa on Telecommunication.
In 2007, he was a Federal Government delegate to Brazil on Power and Energy.
In 2011, he was the Honorable Commissioner of Finance, Economic Planning and Budget.
In 2013, he was member of Osun Local Governments Creation Committee (Governor Aregbesola ThinkTank Committee).
In 2014, he served as the Chairman, APC Campaign Committee Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency for the August 9th, Governorship Election, Osun.
(B) APC National delegate on Presidential Primary Election, Lagos.
In 2015, he was Chairman, APC Campaign Committee Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency for the Presidential Election of Mohammed Buhari/Osibajo.
Also in 2011, he personally funded and did the re-conducting of the power line from Ijebu Jesa to Ere Ijesa to improve lightening.
In 2012, he used his position to facilitate supply of two (2) transformers to Ijebu Jesa town. He also used his position to replace the transformer in Erin Oke and personally paid for the installation and energizing by the Power Distribution Company.
In 2013, he also used his position in Osun Government to facilitate provision of Transformer to Fadahunsi Avenue Residents in Ilesa. He also personally donated a 33kVA transformer to Owena Ijesa and spent close to N1m (One Million Naira) to install and energize the transformer. He used his banking Industry contact to get the Distribution Company to reconnect Owena Ijesa. This project cost him close to N5 Million (Five Million Naira).
In 2014, he personally provided transformer to Eti Oni, a town located in Oriade LGA in Osun state. In addition to the supply of borehole personally funded by Dr Wale Bolorunduro.
Local and rural roads totaling 10km were graded in Oriade, personally by Wale Bolorunduro, free for the community and to provide rural access to farm land. Free Annual Personal Grading of Local Roads in Oriade and Obokun by Wale Bolorunduro through its personal entire funding.
As Commisioner of Finance, he ensured that Ife/Ijesa got its own fair share of road constructions and he project financed them in such a way that they were ring fenced against payment delay and administrative bottlenecks:
Despite a record that showed that Ife had township roads during PDP regime, he encouraged the Governor to carry out additional works that led to completion of the Ilesa Township roads.
Dr. Wale Bolorunduro is a philanthropist. He is the founder of Wale Bolorunduro Foundation.
Various voluntary testimonies exist from numerous beneficiaries on Bibiire’s involvement in their lives through employment facilitation and social interventions, etc. Bibiire is the grand Patron of Ilesa Chapter of Okada Riders.
Through Wale Bolorunduro Foundation, widows and market traders are empowered and set up and working capital provided to do small businesses.
In 2014, distribution of 100 motor cycles brand new to Olokada was made by him. First time that such top most quality Bajaj machine from Japan would be distributed freely by an individual to support commercial activities in Osun.
He also enhanced the facilitation of empowerment programmes and education to support and grow small businesses.
Educational support/scholarship/prizes for youths is also part of his priority. He made supplies of study materials and school uniforms for students. Expanded Tertiary education sponsorship program is being planned for the successful beneficiaries across the state to remove the burden of finance by parents and guardians. HE IS ALSO THE PATRON OF GREEN HOUSE in TAYELOLU MEMORIAL COLLEGE, IPETU IJESA, WHICH I MANAGE.
THROUGH Wale Bolorunduro Foundation, widows, artisans and market traders are empowered by setting them up and providing working capital to do small businesses. This entails provision of implements and working tools, training and skill acquisitions and education to support and grow small businesses. The Widows Empowerment Program is ongoing now and it’s targeted at widows who want to start a new business. They will be reappraised after 6 months for the second phase.
