The Speaker of the Osun House of Assembly, Mr Najeem Salaam, said the delay in the appointment of cabinet was child of necessity occasioned by the stringent financial position of the state and economic crisis which bedeviled the nation.

This is contained in a statement by Mr Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, the House Committee Chairman on Information and Strategy on Monday in Osogbo.

Salaam, according to the statement said this during the screening of the governor’s nominees for the position of Commissioners and Special Advisers at the plenary.

The Speaker who urged the people of the state not to misconstrue the delay by Governor Rauf Aregbesola as a weakness or strength pointed that the approach of the governor had helped to a certain degree to free resources for development.

Salaam, however, charged the nominees to see the opportunity as a lofty call to service of the people of the state.

He urged the nominees, if confirmed, make themselves available for quality service and learn to eschew any form of greed, adding that people were watching them with an eagle eye.

“You have my sympathy, expectations are high, your jobs do not call for envy, so, working with a government which is perking on a lean purse is not going to be a tea party”.

Among the nominees screened by the lawmakers was Hussein Mudasiru, who represented Osun West Senatorial District between 2011 and 2015 at the Senate.

During his screening, the lawmakers in their contributions, commended the former Senator for accepting the appointment to be part of the governor’s incoming cabinet.

Aregbesola in a letter dated April 11, forwarded 39 names of nominees for Commissioner and Special Advisers to the State House of Assembly for consideration and confirmation.

The letter was read at plenary by the Speaker on April 18.
