The Vice Chancellor, Ondo State University of Science and Technology, (OSUSTECH) Okitipupa, Professor Sunday Ogunduyile has admonished the newly admitted students into the institution not to derail from their focus saying that their primary assignment was to pursue their academic programmes and obtain their degrees with ease.
Prof Ogunduyile gave the admonition over the weekend at the 7th Matriculation Ceremony of the institution where 706 students were matriculated for 2016/2017 academic session.
According to him, the 7th matriculation event stands out unique because it is the first time the institution would be matriculating 706 students since its establishment in 2008.
He said that it was another evidence of the development and progress of the university.
Ogunduyile posited that OSUSTECH has never and it would never produce half-baked graduates, advising the newly admitted students to fasten their seat belts to be able to meet up with the pace of work in their various departments and other entrepreneurship programmes that they would all be exposed to.
While appealing to the staff and students of the institution, the VC said, “for OSUSTECH to develop and compete with her counterparts within and outside the state, we need everybody’s input and cooperation.
“For about 9 years, we have been a one faculty university operating in a miniature campus, we have produced two sets of graduates and yet we have never held convocation, no capital fund from our proprietor for years and we have been in a place that could be described as thick forest with little or no interaction with the host communities and other important organisations.”
Speaking at the matriculation ceremony, the state governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu SAN said his administration is ready to support and develop the university in other to made it the best among other universities in Nigeria.
Akeredolu who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Mr Ifedayo Abegunde, however, called on the admitted students to face their studies squarely so that they could do their parents and guardians proud in future.
