Osun By-election: Supporters Defy Rain To Turn Up For Adeleke As PDP Campaign Hits Ejigbo
Thousands of supporters of the People Democratic Party, (PDP), defied the early morning showers on Thursday to turn out en masse to give a rousing welcome and support to the party candidate for Osun West senatorial district by-election slated for July 8, Otunba Ademola Adeleke.
The carnival-like scene was enacted as the party’s candidate hit Ejigbo in Ejigbo local government area of Osun.
The popular ‘Oba Abidjan house’s, Igbo Owa, Ejigbo, the venue of the rally, witnessed an unprecedented turnout as a crowd of party faithful from all walks of life thronged in to show their support for the party’s flag bearer.
Member of the party across the wards that made up the local government area, market men and woman, students, as well as commercial motorcyclists stormed the venue of the rally.
The party supporters took over the popular road in the rain to dance to music from the loud speakers. The old, young and the disabled were not left out in the dancing game. Some raised up their hand and shouting ‘Power to the people’
The State Chairman of PDP, Hon. Soji Adagunodo expressed his gratitude for the massive turnout and show of support for PDP and its candidate in coming Saturday election.
Adagunodo who charged eligible voters to come out en mass and cast their vote for PDP said he was very impressed for the love Ejigbo people shown them.
He explained that the people of the town have shown to the whole world that Ejigbo is wholly for PDP and its candidate Ademola Adeleke.
He said “party members and some people from the ruling party are working day and night apart from volunteer groups and non-governmental organisations who indicated their interest in showing solidarity and support for our party and our candidates.”
According to him the senatorial by-election rally of the PDP has displayed to the whole world the total support of the people of Ejigbo for Otunba Adeleke and the PDP as a whole.
He therefore, charged the people of Ejigbo and the entire citizenry of Osun West senatorial district to shun intimidation and come out en mass to cast their vote PDP.
Speaking in the same vein, the former Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisorw urged all residents and supporters of the PDP in the district to remain calm, focused and avoid violence in spite of the provocation by the opponent.
He urged all eligible voters on the need to exercise their civic responsibility, saying the only power they have to liberate themselves was through their votes.
