Osun Monarch, Olowu Of Kuta Commends Aregbesola On Prudent Management Of Resources
A prominent traditional Ruler in Osun, Olowu of Kuta Kingdom, Oba Hammed Adekunle Oyelude, Tegbosun III has lauded Governor Rauf Aregbesola of the state for his prudent economic resource management and people oriented programmes in the State.
Oba Oyelude who was the Royal father at the 2017 Press Week of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, UNJ, Osun State chapter, spoke at NUJ council, Osogbo, on Monday.
Oba Oyelude explained that, Aregbesola’s administration has proven to the good People of Osun and Nigeria that government of Osun is different and unique.
He said the current government in Osun has brought about development through human development programmes and initiatives which continue to be a chain of positive multiplier effects to all and sundry in the last seven years.
“The Government of Aregbesola can be best described as pathfinder and peace setter in Osun.
“Virtually all Aregbesola’s developmental Programmes, which are borne out of service to humanity and passion for true Democracy, were being replicated and adopted by other states including the Federal Government .”
The monarch also used the medium to congratulate the Nigerian Press, describing it as a stabilizing force to National Integration and Panacea to Country’s Challenges,
Oba Oyelude who urged the journalists to do more in promotion of good governance and reasonable political ideology also promised, to continue to support journalists.
He therefore charged the media practitioners on the need for them to be accurate in their reports, saying “we expect the beat from you.
He said, “though, you are working under precarious situation, don’t relent.
Declaring the week event open, the Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, who was represented by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Adelani Baderinwa, said his government was committed to the security of Journalists and the people of the state.
Aregbesola who commended media practitioners for their resilience and doggedness in the cause of Nigeria’s Democracy said “We value you and this is why we always welcome your constructive criticism.
He said the press had survive, particularly in terms of creative writing skills towards achieving Nigeria’s dreams of the Founding Fathers.
Dr. Fassy Adetokunboh Yusuf, the Guest speaker at the event, in his Paper presentation titled “Media Effectiveness: Panacea to Nation’s Democratic Challenges.” berated the level of laziness in the media and among journalists which, according to him, was less to be desired by the incoming generations.
“The noble call for high level of professionalism per excellence, which oath must be taking by the agile and calculating Minds, who have intellectual capacity to challenge and question conventions of the Nigerian system in the areas of; Polity ,Politics, Economic Agenda, Policy making and among others.” he stressed.
The communication expert therefore charged Nigerian media practitioners re-evaluate their methods of Practice beyond mediocrity and below-average standard so that the profession could take its rightful position in the space of Nigeria’s Affairs.
In his remarks, the Chairmen, NUJ council, Mr. Abiodun Olalere and the Correspondents’ Chapel, Prince Hameed Oyegbade, expressed appreciation to individuals who had made the lecture successful.
