The Students Union President of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree has been suspended by the Students Representative Council, SRC, over alleged embezzlement of N100,000.

The SRC also ordered other executives of the union to write an apology for their involvement in the sharing of the students’ money.

The speaker of the SRC, Mr Olakunle Afeez a.k.a O’possible, alleged that the SUG president collected a takeoff grant of N80,000 and shared it among his excos without informing the SRC.

Afeez stated that it was only the student union Public Relation Officer, Mikel Halim a.k.a Olumiko  who refused to share in the money.

A member of the SRC, Comrade Lawal Sodiq, told our correspondent that the SUG Auditor, Olaosun Labode, has also returned his own and also tendered a letter of apology to the students.

The letter written by the Auditor reads in part: I apologize as the Union Auditor for not to have officially notify the Students Representative Council as an independent body as requested of me by the Student Union constitution, when I noticed of a gross financial misconduct among the student union executive.

“I hereby tender my sincere apology to the entire students of this noble institution who has entrusted me with this office and I promise that I will discharge my constitutional duties accordingly and report any sort of financial misconduct as required of me by the student union constitution in article lll, section lX as one of my constitutional responsibility.

But, the SUG president, Surajudeen Muhammad a.k.a Imole, said he has not seen the suspension letter and the suspension can not hold.

He explained that he gave N5,000 to each of his executive member to run their offices.

He said “we have been using our money to attend to students problem before we heard that there is a take off grant of N100,000. When I wanted to withdraw the take-off grant, the speaker said I should not collect it.

“As a president, I withdrew the money and gave my executive N5,000 each before SRC queried me that I didn’t inform them and they asked us to submit our budget.

The SUG president however described the suspension as a ploy to spoil his image.
