Osun Govt, NILDS Organize Quiz Competition For Secondary School Students
Osun State Government and the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies(NILDS) has organised a National Quiz competition for Secondary school pupils in Osun State.
New Telegraph reports that the competition is aimed at discovering young and brilliant students with the aim of encouraging and nurturing them to stardom for the benefit of Osun State and Nigeria.
The quiz competition held in Osogbo saw six schools drawn from different zones across the State who jostled for a chance to represent Osun State at the zonal level which will be held in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Fifteen students from different schools across zones in Osun State participated in the quiz competition which tested their knowledge on the political landscape in Nigeria and most especially the Legislative arm of government.
At the end of the keenly contested competition, Masters Olakunle Convenant and Moses PraiseGod from Vicayo Model School, Ile-Ife emerged tops and got the ticket to go and represent the State at the zonal level which will come up in Ibadan where those who will proceed to the national finals will be selected.
Declaring the competition open, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education Mr. Murtala Jimoh advised the students to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship amongst themselves embrace a winning mentality all the time.
He appreciated the NILDS for organizing such a competition which he said will go a long way in quickly instilling in the future generation the need to be responsible when they find themselves in leadership positions.
In his welcome address, Osun NILDS quiz master, Mr. Faruq Onikijipa explained that the objective of the competition is to provide continued education on legislative activities and broaden the knowledge of students and youths on history and politics.
He added that the competition will stimulate the interest of the young students in politics and make them more proactive in matters relating to the legislature and Democracy.
