Tragedy: Final Year University Student Commits Suicide
Tragedy struck at the University of Nigeria, Nsuka at the weekend when a final year student of Agricultural Engineering, Tobechukwu Okeke committed suicide.
Okeke hung himself in his one room apartment at Odenigwe community in Nsukka, Enugu State.
His lifeless body was said to be found dangling in the room when his neighbour opened his door.
It was gathered that a neighbour close to the family of the deceased disclosed that Okeke left a note behind where he apologised to his family for his action.
The note, as revealed by the neighbour reads: “Mother, Father, brother, I’m sorry. Ify, may your children never suffer. Uncle Mathias, you gave me all. I am sorry. Death calls. Linguistic department, I am sorry. Okeke Tobechukwu S. 2012/185649.”
The Dean of Student Affairs of the university, Professor Uju Umo, confirmed Okeke’s death.
President of the Student Union, Mr Chukwu Emmanuel, also confirmed the incident.
The deceased might have committed suicide because he was owing “too much money, according to some people close to him.
