Hoodlums Attack Akinrun’s Palace, Molests Olori, Beat APC Members
-Aregbesola’s Security Aids Arrest 2
For the second time in less than a month, hoodlums on Wednesday attacked the Palace of Akinrun of Ikirun, Oba Abdulrauf Olayiwola Olawale, Adedeji ii and harassed the Akinrun’s wife, Olori Esther Olawale while launching their attacks.
Two of the hoodlums were, however, arrested by some security aides of Governor Rauf Aregbesola, who was rushing to the palace to check on Akinrun when he was hinted on the attack on the palace.
CityMirrorNews learnt that some thugs had few weeks ago stormed the palace and threatened to burn it down.
It would be recalled that a Muslim Cleric, Alhaji Mojeed Adeyemi, who is the Imam of Lameco Central Mosque, Ikirun had few weeks ago launched verbal attack on the traditional ruler, cursing and calling him unprintable names.
Just last week, some hoodlums attacked the Ifelodun APC Secretariat at Oke-Afo, Ifelodun North Local Council Development Area, Isale-Ikirun.
CityMirrorNews gathered that the hoodlums, who were allegedly acting on the script of a former Senatorial Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Gbadamosi Lawal, attacked the palace twice before two of them were arrested.
It was learnt that the hoodlums had around 12pm besieged the palace in an attempt to attack Oba Olawale.
They allegedly molested and roughened Olori Esther Olawale who was at the veranda when the hoodlums stormed the palace.
Sources disclosed to CityMirrorNews that the hoodlums stormed the palace when Oba Olawale, Lawal and a businessman, Tijani Oladosu popularly called Tilad were holding a peace meeting.
Oladosu had initiated a peace meeting between Akinrun and Lawal who was reportedly aggrieved over the traditional ruler’s influence in the APC.
The thugs, who were said to be supporters of the APC chieftain, surreptitiously followed Lawal and Tilad into the palace and launched the attack while the peace meeting was on.
It was learnt that Aregbesola also met with Lawal in his house and later took him to the Akinrun’s palace at evening to beg the traditional ruler.
While the second meeting was on, sympathizers and supporters of Akinrun in the APC and other residents of the community who were coming to the palace were allegedly waylaid at the palace’s entrance by the thugs.
The Akinrun’s ‘people’ were beaten, molested and chased away by the thugs, among which were some aggrieved members of the APC in Ikirun.
According to sources, the meeting lasted for about two hours, and when Aregbesola came out, he said: “where are our leaders? There is no more crisis, we have settled all the issues.”
Shortly after the governor left the Akinrun’s palace, the hoodlums resurfaced and re-launched their attack on the Akinrun’s palace, according to sources.
The thugs, were, however, repelled by the Akinrun’s supporters who chased the hoodlums out of the palace.
It was gathered that Aregbesola returned to the palace when he was hinted that the hoodlums had come back to attack the palace.
While the governor’s convoy was driving into the palace, some of the hoodlums were seen on the roads and the Governor’s security aides arrested them.
The hoodlums also attacked and vandalized the house of a Chieftain of the APC in Ikirun, Alhaji kehinde Olamolu who is a Commissioner 1 in the Local Government Service Commission.
As at the time of filing this report policemen are in Ikirun to arrest some of the identified thugs.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Osun Command, Mr Ajibade Egbedele, said he was not aware of the incident but promised to work on the information.
