Standardised Weighing Scales “Osunwon Omoluabi” another rip off on Osun people -PDP
Osun state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Thursday June 16, 2016 said the recently launched “food weighing machine” by Governor Rauf Aregbesola is a rip off meant to benefit some Lagos based cronies of the Governor.
The party also claimed over N200 million was spent on the launch of the initiative, adding that an Ondo-born ex aide of Governor Aregbesola, who is in the governorship race of the state, collected N150 million for supplying marque and public address system used for the ceremony.
Governor Aregbesola on Monday, June 13 launched the standardised weight for use in markets across the state at an elaborate ceremony in Osogbo.
But PDP in a statement issued in Osogbo on Thursday by its spokesperson, Prince Diran Odeyemi, said the new scale is “another product of a confused mind, meant to rip off Osun people and designed to fail.”
The party said: “like the ill-fated Opon imo, common uniforms for all schools, reclassification of schools, non appointment of commissioners and hijab crises, the “Osunwon Omoluabi” is designed to fail and it is another avenue to settle some Lagos cronies of Ogbeni.
“From our findings most of the 40,000 pieces of the scale bought by a contractor friend of Aregbesola since 2012 but kept in a warehouse in Ode Omu had developed faults right from the take off of the programme.
“Going by the rate at which the government plans to sell them to already pauperized people of the state, profit running to several millions of naira would be made by those involved at the expense of the people.”
“We wonder why Osunwon is the main thing for government of a state like Osun where all worship centres have been turned to Internally Displaced Camps over unpaid salaries and all what the government could do as palliative measure is to further compound the people’s problems with the exorbitant sale of “weighing machine”
“Like opon imo, common school uniforms and other similar white elephant projects being executed by the present administration, this Osunwon project is never designed to succeed because Osun does not need such”
