Make Graduates Job Creators, Osun Deputy Gov Charges Varsities
In a bid to reduce to the barest minimum the menace of unemployment in the country, Nigerian Universities have been charged on the for them to patch up the curriculum of institutions of higher learning to one that would turn Nigerian graduates to job creators from job seekers.
Deputy Governor of Osun State Mrs. Grace Titi Laoye-Tomori, gave the charge while playing host to top officers of the Mountain Top University, Ogun State who were on courtesy visit to
her office led by the Vice Chancellor of the institution.
Tomori, who described education as a good avenue to reduce high rate of unemployment in the country and to revamp the nation’s economic situation from its deplorable state it is at present, said many Nigerian university graduates now take to crimes because of their inability to secure paid employment.
The Deputy Governor who said youths are expected to be upright both in character and learning, emphasized that, the future of the Nigerian economy lies in the hands of present graduates and
undergraduates alike.
Inculcating the importance of investment in agriculture and exploitation of mineral resources into the undergraduates, Mrs. Laoye-Tomori said, oil has lost its pride of place across the world saying the nation should look in other directions to meet up with the economic yearnings of the country.
Leader of the delegation and Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Ayobami Elijah, said despite the fact that, functional education requires a lot of inputs in human and material resources into the university education, also added that, Mountain Top University will stop at nothing to prepare her students to appreciate dignity, acquire relevant skills and hold on to the tenets of the
proprietor.
Professor Elijah, who said many graduates are handicapped from being major contributors to societal growth, said the institution was established to create excellence in the society and contribute meaningfully to the betterment of the society.
According to him, graduates of the institution will be prepared to meet up with challenges of the society academically, morally and spiritually.
