-Says Trauma Still Haunts Her Six Years After Incident

Popular Nigerian media personality and actress, Omotunde Adebowale-David, widely known as Lolo 1, has opened up about her harrowing experience of being raped by a male colleague in the broadcast industry.

Lolo, who made the revelation in a recent episode of her podcast Say My Piece, said the traumatic incident, which happened six years ago, has continued to haunt her, especially as she still crosses paths with her alleged abuser.

The actress noted that although she was willing to speak up, she chose not to disclose the full details for fear of being judged for the timing of her revelation.

In her words: “I hardly ever say this, and I am not even ready to tell the full story. The stories of sexual assault… When I discussed it with my daughter yesterday, she held my hand and said, ‘Mummy, you’ve gone through so much.’ And I said I had.”

Recalling the emotional toll the incident has had on her, she continued: “I remember how many of those things I have to relive. I have been raped only once in my life, and I was raped by a colleague. I see him every other day. Do you know how traumatised I am? When I see him, I just get into this momentary panic.”

The veteran broadcaster, however, expressed concern about how society tends to respond when victims decide to speak out after years of silence.

According to her, “If a woman of my calibre named him—he’s an established person in the broadcast industry—won’t people say, ‘How come I didn’t speak about it for all these six years until now that he’s taking a prominent TV position?’”

Speaking further, Lolo highlighted the psychological aftermath that many women face following sexual assault, stating that denial and self-blame are often their first reactions.

Her revelation adds to the growing list of voices advocating for safer workspaces and accountability within Nigeria’s media and entertainment industries.
