A group known as Greater Osun Agenda has begged the state government of Osun to extend the deadline for the ongoing teachers recruitment exercise in the state to allow more applicants to participate.

The organization who is committed to pushing the interest of Osun state and her people to the front burner at all times said extending the exercise by two or more weeks will give room for more people to apply.

The convener of the group, Jolapamo Bolanle, in a statement on Wednesday, said some prospective applicants experienced delay and difficulties in the first week of the two week period for the online application process.

“Our organisation: Greater Osun Agenda is committed to pushing the interest of Osun state and her people to the front burner at all times. Based on this principle, it becomes imperative for us to express our concern about the ongoing teachers’ recruitment as it were today.

“First, we commend the Osun State Government under the leadership of Senator Ademola Adeleke for taking the bold and decisive step of massively recruiting five thousand teachers to booster primary and secondary education in the state. On one hand, it is our belief that this effort will not only add value to the education sector but also help reduce unemployment in the state.

“On the other however, we noted the delay and difficulties experienced in the first week of the two week period for the online application process by prospective applicants. Until few days ago when the issue was rectified, many applicants were unable to submit their online application.

“In the light of this, we make bold to say that the two weeks application period is not enough for the exercise. Therefore, we seize this avenue to appeal to the state Government to extend the deadline for the online application by two more weeks to give room for more people to apply.

“More so, it is equally important that we pray:

“Government do not politicize the recruitment process; Government should ensure that only qualified and capable hands are employed in the interest of the growth of education in the state; State (government) gives attention to recruiting lecturers into that state tertiary institutions across board understanding that many of these institutions have more contract and part-time lecturers than the permanent staff members thereby making these set of part-time lecturers underemployed (many of which have been working as contract/part-time lecturer for close to 10 years).

“Conclusively, we hope our requests receive the needed attention in the developmental interest of the people of osun state, and political growth of this administration.”

“God bless the people of osun state!
God bless Government of Osun State!
God bless Nigeria!”
