Collapse Of Socialization Process, Indiscipline , Breakdown Of Due Process Responsible For Misuse, Abuse Of Social Media – Prof. Olagoke

The collapse of the socialisation process, environment of indiscipline and breakdown of due process in transaction has been identified as factors responsible for the various misuse and abuses of the social media

The founder, spiritual head and grand Imam of Shafaudeen in Islam Worldwide, Professor Sabit Ariyo Olagoke stated this at the Annual Stakeholders Conference and the grand finale of the 2023 edition of the Olagoke Legacy Education Foundation ( O’leg) held at the organisation’s headquarters, Wakajaye, Ibadan.

The Islamic cleric who noted that the misuse and abuses of the social media has been detrimental to the peace to peace, security and sustainable development achievement by several nations in Africa and Nigeria in particular.

In his lecture titled ” The Social Media And Peer Group Effects:Tackling The Challenges , Professor Olagoke
listed the various abuses of the social media to include hacking, defrauding through ATM, yahoo+, ritual killing, incest among others .

He noted that the youth are gullible, most especially those with poor parental background in their adolescent stage and is get worse for them in a collapsed system of the agent of socialization.

“It is pertinent that we rebrand Nigeria with due recognition for these important institutions and the agents of socialization responsibilities. Once the environment is sanitized into a disciplined and corruption free environment, collaboration of all agents of socialization will help us revitalize and re-entrench a durable socialization process to a working stool status “, he said.

He also called for the reorganisation of the cultural , religious, educational and the political institutions so as to restore the era of discipline and child upbringing for the nation to witness peaceful coexistence, unity and development.

” Government must provide the needful to the parents to keep their home, and the couple to rear good children for the society. Such child will not take to miscreancy, this will enhance the youth not to abuse the privilege of the social media or destroy themselves “, he advised.

One of the discussants at the conference who is President General , Pro- democracy groups for a better Nigeria, Comrade Awa Bamiji in his submission ,
urged the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) to set up an agency that will be saddled with the responsibility of monitoring and regulating the activities of the social media users.

Another speaker, an expert in Guidance Counselling with the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Dr. Ibrahim Adediran advocated for the adoption of the SMART Concept by the agents of socialization in checkmating users of the social media.

The occasion featured the presentation of prizes and certificates to winners of the 21st edition of the Annual Olagoke Legacy Education Foundation “O’leg” quiz competition at both the Senior and Junior secondary schools categories.

In the Junior category, Akinriinola Toluwanimi of Faith International College, Oyo, came 1st,while the 2nd position went to Akorede Azeezat of Muslim Model College, Ibadan. Adenuga Shamsudeen of Shafaudeen Comprehensive College, Ibadan and Operinde Mofeedat of Ansardeen Comprehensive College, Ibadan clinched the 3rd and 4th positions respectively.

Similarly, in the Senior Category, Olurode AbdulRasak of The Wing School, Iwo, Osun state took the 1st position, while both Adeoti Judah of Baptist Medical Center Secondary School, Saki and Adedayo Ridwan of Isale Oyo Commercial Grammar School, Oyo, came 2nd with same points. Adeleye Adewunmi of Yejide Grammar School, Ibadan came 3rd while Adedoyin Samuel of Commercial Grammar School, Lalupon came 4th
