Ondo: Oyemekun Grammar School Beats Over 200 Schools In Quiz, Debate Competition
The efforts of the Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu-led government in Ondo State at repositioning the state’s education sector has recorded another major boost as Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure, emerging the first position in the overall quiz and debate competition at the career guide symposium of the 2022 edition of the Teens Connect Africa
Quiz Competition.
The quiz competition which was held at the Ondo state Library, had over 200 schools in attendance that participated.
Speaking on the secret behind the winning the first position in the competition, the principal of the school, Mr. Okeowo Ogunleye said “it is hard work, commitment of the teachers and self discipline among the students because we are known for these.
“There was never a time our school, Oyemekun came third or fourth, we always take first position or second and it will interest you to tell you that one of my boys, Chukwuemeka will be representing Oyemekun, Ondo state and Nigeria as a whole in Turkey next month, he became overall winner in 100mitters in Lagos.”
Ogunleye who described the event as a celebration of excellence appreciated Governor Akeredolu for being the facilitator of the new drive towards excellence in education in Ondo State.
“I want to thank this government led by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, he has been giving us conducive environment to operate in the state, we have went on farming with the cooperation of my teachers, we have planted almost 2hectares of maize. We are no longer buy maize, we also went on production of tomatoes, we have harvested onions and these are made possible as a result of the conducive environment we are given by the government.
“Also, during the WAEC registration, government paid for the WAEC fees of my boys and parents were so happy for this. These are the things government have been doing for us,” he said.
