Police Arrest Four Over N5m Mobile Phone Shop Burglary In Osogbo

The Osun State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with the alleged burglary of a mobile phone shop in the Oja-Oba area of Osogbo, where phones valued at about N5 million were reportedly stolen.

The suspects were identified by the police as Afeez Arole, 30; Salami Wahab Idowu, 49; Akanmu Afeez, 37; and Adebisi Taofeek, 47.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, saying the arrests followed intelligence-led surveillance and investigation by police operatives.

According to the statement, the incident was reported on September 1, 2026, after the complainant discovered that his shop at Oja-Oba had been burgled and different types of mobile phones, estimated at N5 million, stolen.

Ojelabi said the police subsequently commenced efforts to identify and apprehend those allegedly responsible for the burglary.

He said the breakthrough came on September 22, when the command received credible information that suspected hoodlums were operating within the Oja-Oba area.

“Following intelligence-led surveillance and investigation, police operatives raided the suspected hideout of the alleged perpetrators, leading to the arrest of four suspects,” the statement said.

The police said two Itel mobile phones were recovered from the suspects and were subsequently identified by the complainant as part of the phones allegedly stolen from his shop.

The four suspects have reportedly made statements to the police, while investigation continues to establish the circumstances surrounding the burglary and determine the extent of each suspect’s alleged involvement.

The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Zungura, directed the investigating team to intensify efforts to identify other members of the suspected criminal network and recover more of the stolen items.

The command said it remained committed to protecting lives and property across the state through intelligence-led policing and other crime-prevention strategies.

It also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the police through appropriate channels.
