Father Beats 19-Year-Old Son To Death, Flees

The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the tragic death of a 19-year-old boy who was allegedly beaten to death by his father in the Alagbado area of Lagos.

According to Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin in a statement on Thursday, the incident was reported to the Alagbado Police Division on Tuesday.

Hundeyin revealed that the father, Olumide, had inflicted a deep cut on his son Adeyemi’s right hand with a shovel as a form of punishment for an undisclosed offense.

The victim was initially taken to a nearby hospital for treatment but was later transferred to the General Hospital in Ikeja due to the severity of his injuries. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and died from a tetanus infection, as confirmed by the attending doctor.

The police have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and the father’s actions.

Hundeyin said, “At about 12 p.m. on July 5, one Olumide gave his son, Adeyemi a deep cut under moderate correction, at his right-hand side with a shovel over an undisclosed offense.”

“But when the injury became serious, he was taken to the General Hospital Ikeja, where he gave up the ghost as a result of tetanus infection, as confirmed by the doctor on duty,” Hundeyin said.

Hundeyin said the scene of the incident was visited by detectives of the division.

“the father of the victim is currently at large and investigations continue.”
