An 80- year old man, Bakare Adeyemi has been dragged before an Osun Magistrate’s court sitting in Osogbo, the state capital for allegedly duping a land buyer.

Adeyemi was arraigned on Wednesday by the Police in the state on two count-charge of fraud and theft which he pleaded not guilty to.

The prosecutor, Abiodun Fagboyinbo, alleged that the accused person did fraudulently obtain the sum of N350,000 from one Kazeem Mohammed, with the intent of selling a plot of land to him knowing full well it was false.

He said the offence was committed in 2015 at Temidire Atura Quarters Ido- Osun.

He also noted that the offence is contrary to and punishable under sections 419 and 390(9) of the criminal code cap 34 Vol. 2 of the Laws of Osun state Nigeria 2002.

Defence counsel, Olaoluwa Fawegbewese, prayed the court to grant his client bail in most liberal terms.

But Fagboyinbo objected the oral bail application claiming that Adeyemi was aware that the land is in dispute before selling it to Kazeem.

Fawegbewese told the court that the case had been ongoing in the high court which was unknown to the defendant.
He also made it known to the court that the defendant had no intention of defrauding Kazeem.

Presiding Magistrate, Ishola Omishade, granted the accused person bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties.
Omishade then transferred the matter to Magistrate court II, Osogbo for hearing on March 3, 2021.
