Court Remands Suspected Cultist In Osun Over Alleged Murder

An Osun State Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, on Tuesday, ordered the remand of a 25-year-old man, Agbebunmi Biodun, for alleged murder and theft.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Elisha Olusegun, had told the court that the accused person committed the offence on the 25th of May, 2018 at about 7:00pm at Idasa area, Ilesa.

Olusegun informed the court that the accused person did unlawfully shoot one Adesoye Adekunle to death with a gun.

He further alleged that Biodun did arm himself with gun and other dangerous weapons and robbed one Fadipe Abayomi of two bottles of Hennessy drink, valued at N24,000, and a cash sum of N18,000.

He said that the accused person, on 18th of May, 2020, at about 1:00pm, in Ede, did conspire, among others, now at large, as members of an unlawful society known as Eiye Confraternity cult group.

The offence committed, according to the prosecution, was contrary to and punishable under Section 6(b),1(1) and (2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms ( Special Provisions) Act Cap RI vol. 14 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and Section 324, 319(1) and 64(a) of the Criminal Code Cap. 34 Vol. ll Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

The plea of accused person was not taken by the court because of the severity of the charge.

The Magistrate, Olubunmi Ajanaku ordered the remand of the accused in Ilesa Correctional Center.

Ajanaku transfered the matter to Ilesa Magistrate court, to be mentioned on 21st of July, 2020.
