AHI Trains Judicial, Security Officers On Anti FGM Law Enforcement

A non governmental organisation, Action Health Incorporated has trained judiciary officers and law enforcement agencies in Osun State on strengthening the implementation/operationalization of laws and legal frameworks to improve access to justice for survivors in the State.

The engagement which was organized by AHI with the support of UNFPA and in collaboration with the state Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.

Participants demanded implementation of Violence Against Person Prohibition law to deal with perpetrators of FGM in the state.

The stakeholders in the state including government officials, representatives, Legal aid, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps attended the training.

They charged relevant authorities to ensure adequate monitoring of children from birth stage to adulthood to ensure they were not mutilated.

They said the one of the effective way to overcome FGM is proper documentation of children that were born in various communities.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs in Osun State, Jide Falade the state government was willing to collaborate with non-organizations to end against circumcision of the female child.

Falade maintained that the state government is keen on sensitizing people at the grassroot.

The programme Officer of AHI, Ibukunoluwa Abraham said the organisation was supporting state ministries and stakeholders to eradicate FGM practice in Osun state.
