2023: Peter Obi Will Boost Food Exports , Tackle Poverty If Elected President- Labour Party Chieftain
By Segun Ojo, Osogbo
The Deputy National Chairman of the Labour Party, Alhaji Bashiru Lamidi Apapa, on Thursday said that the presidential candidate of the party, Mr Peter Obi would pull Nigerians out of poverty and make the country a food exporting country if elected president in 2023.
Apapa gave the assurance at a sensitisation programme organised for members of the party in preparation for the forthcoming general election, held in Osogbo, Osun State capital.
He stated that if Obi emerge victorious, he would end the era of food consuming and bring about food production adding that Obi would equally promote youth development through creation of employments.
He said: “It is only God that has ultimate answer to Peter Obi’s presidential ambition. But we are optimistic about his victory by the way things are going.
“One of the issues he raised is that Nigeria is food consuming instead of producing. We are going to change from consumers to producers and It is only through producing we can create employment.
“Today in Nigeria, everything is imported and if we can have industries all over the country, I think that will change the level of unemployment.”
Speaking on the significance of the programme, he said they organised the programme in a bid to equip their members with the needed information about what they should do before, during and after the elections.
“We are sensitizing and mobilizing our people for the forthcoming election. We want them to know what they should do before, during and after the elections.
“As a political party, they have done and still doing their best. And we have advised them to do more. What we have seen so far is not that impressive.
“The structure is not only about the people. It is about connectivity. We are doing a lot to put up formidable front for the next election. People complain there is no presence of Labour Party at the local government level and ward level. And if you talk about politics, it is at the grassroot level.
“We have advised them to do it if they have not been doing it. It is from there you can talk about structure. Structure is not at the state level. Your votes count from the units to wards to local government level before the eventual collation at the state level. We are to direct them and we have done that.” he said.
