Stand Up against Oppressors, Sangosanya Urges Workers on May Day

A former Chair, Labor-Civil Society Coalition, Plateau State, Comrade Joseph Sangosanya has urged workers to stand against oppressors.

Sangosanya made the call in his May Day message to workers across the globe.

He said that labour unions in Nigeria have mortgaged the interest of workers to the bourgeois who exploits workers for their interest.

The statement reads:

“Great, Great, Great Nigerian Workers. My Comrades. The leadership of our great Unions has unconsciously surrendered the May Day celebration to the wimps and capris of the oppressed rulership and dictate of the bourgeoisie that has led workers to a server and unendurable poverty.

“This has reduced the great workers to the benevolent disposition of their exploiters and oppressors, and in effect, it renders meaningless the solidarity song stanza of “when the union inspiration through the Workers’ blood shall run, there can be no power greater anywhere beneath the sun”

“But, the unions have lost their vibrancy on this historical day. The essence is to exist independently of selfish motives, more so, to the ruling exploiters.

“Solidarity makes us strong and in unity, we shall stand. This May Day let us stand up against these oppressors, exploiters, and looters, defend the sovereign commonwealth of our people, let stand firm against bad, corrupt leadership.”.

Sangosanya called on workers to defend democracy, rule of law, and constitutionalism.

He said “Great workers of Nigeria, let us rise for the defense of democracy, rule of law, accountability, and transparency in governance. Let’s put on our thinking cap and reposition the unions for success and vibrant constitutional democracy, promoting and protecting the integrity of our electoral process. Let the unions once again rise, defend and make us proud! Aluta Continua. Victoria Ascerta!”
