Insecurity: Osun NSCDC Inaugurates Special Female Squad To Protect Students
Osun State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Friday, inaugurated a special Female Squad, aimed at enhancing security in schools susceptible to Kidnapping and bandits’ attack.
The state commandant of the NSCDC, Mr Emmanuel Ocheja said the special female squad have undergone rigorous training to combat any attacks on schools by armed terrorists across the state.
Speaking, The NSCDC Commandant-General, Mr Ahmed Abubakar Audi charged the newly inaugurated Special Female Squad in Osun to ensure adequate security and safety of lives and property .
Audi who commended the Osun State Command of the NSCDC for living up to the task said Female Squad is a child of necessity borne out of the need to effectively curtail the recent upsurge of insecurity occasioned by armed banditry, kidnapping, insurgency and the need to effectively implement government’s proposed Safe School Initiative.
He further said that recent upsurge and frequency of attacks by bandits who engage in the kidnapping of students for ransom has made it imperative to focus attention on intensifying security in schools environment.
Represented by Assistant Commandant General ( ACG ) Adeyinka Fasiu , said the inauguration of the female armed officers was to help ensure the safety of lives and property of the vulnerable from external threats.
” We are inaugurating this squad due to the rate of insecurity, kidnapping , banditry and terrorism in the country especially in Osun.
” It was an initiative of the corps to curb attacks of the vulnerable especially in schools with an initiative ” Safe School Initiative ”
According to him, the squad is to make our school safe again from all forms of attack and external threats in the state .
” They have been well trained in combat strategies and rigorous training in line with internal security all to fight against insecurity.”
Audi noted that the series of attacks by banditry has made it necessary to focused attention in schools and that warranted the need for the female squad.
“You will agree with me, that our country is currently facing unprecedented security challenges and unique problems that demand unique solutions. These, alongside others, are the reasons for the establishment of the Special Female Squad which is being commissioned today.
The CG urged the female armed officers to stay glue to the rules of engagement and showcase professionalism in their conduct since they have became the image of the Corps wherever they are working.
He also charged them to be ambassador of note wherever they are, saying he has no doubts that they are expected to contribute meaningful efforts to surmount the security challenges that our dear country is contending with.
Mrs Kafayat Oyetola, Wife of Osun Governor , who declared the squad inaugurated, commended NSCDC for the laudable initiative , adding that such would go along way in fighting insecurity in the state .
Oyetola said the role of NSCDC can not be overemphasised looking at the role it played in the safety of lives and property.
She said the state government would continue to engaged security agencies and explored collaboration especially with the corps in making the state safe.
” I want to appeal to the Ministry of Education and Schools Administrators to willingly share valuable information with the personnel and those of other security agencies.
” We as citizens have significant role to play in ensuring robust security in state.
Oyetola , therefore , urged the female armed officers not to disappoints in carrying out their professional duties while on special assignments
