Barde Dayyabu Muhammed, a younger brother to the Assistant Supritendent of Corrections (ASC), Umar Muhammed, has said he spoke with the deceased about an hour to his murder.

Late ASC Muhammed was shot dead during the recent attacks by yet-to-be-identified gunmen on the Jos Custodial Centre where more than 10 persons were reportedly killed.

The deceased, who was the only officer who lost his life was on duty on the day of the incident.

According to Barde, a day before the incident, he dreamt that his brother, Umar, was killed and his corpse was laid before him. He said soon after waking up, he became disturbed and confused on what was going to happen to his brother if the dream would be a reality.

“I had a dream on Saturday that is a day to the incident that he was killed. In the following morning, I woke up confused because in the dream I saw him dead.

“Around 4 p.m. on Sunday, my mind wasn’t at rest and then I decided to call him. The call was deliberate to know whether he was ok or not. He picked the call and we talked at length. An hour later, I saw a post on social media that the Jos Custodial Centre was attacked and from there, I concluded that something must have happened to him. I asked myself; could my dream be real?’’

The younger brother said immediately he heard about the incident, he called the deceased’s line but the call was rejected and moment later he was called that Umar was killed during the attack.

Barde said he would live to remember his brother for everything, adding that the deceased had been helpful to him and the entire family.

“He was a straight forward person. I pray Allah forgive him,” he said.
