For staging a peaceful protest against poor feeding in their school, about eight students of the Seventh-Day Adventist School of Nursing, Lagere, Ile-Ife have been suspended.

The management of the school suspended the students indefinitely for allegedly partaking in a demonstration embarked upon by some students over alleged poor feeding.

The school management in a letter obtained by CityMirrorNews on Wednesday ordered the indefinite suspension of the nursing students on the ground that the protesting students had erred going by the nature of the action.

CityMirrorNews reliably gathered the students had partially boycotted cafeteria to register their grievances over what they described as poor feeding in the school.

The said eight affected students according to information are Part 3 students and Part 1 student.

The names of the suspended students according to a source are as follows Akano Dorcas, Adebayo Deborah, Anah James Blessing, Olasode Justine, Aderemi Adebola, Ogunsola Deborah, Sienna Efe and Adewuyi Omotoyosi.

In the suspension letter, which was signed by the Principal, Alao Moses, and one Tobiloba, as the Vice Principal, Student Affairs, the school authorities said it would not tolerate “truancy”.

The letter was copied to the Chairman, Administrative Committee, Vice Principal, Spiritual Life, Vice Principal, Finance, and Vice Principal, Academics.

The letter dated February 17, 2021, was titled, “Notification of Indefinite Suspension.”

The letter reads, “Sequel to your action in inciting fellow student nurses on a silent protest against the school authorities on Tuesday, February 16, 2021, you are hereby sent on an indefinite suspension.

“As a faith-based institution whose interest is to train student nurses in moral and academic standing, we do not give room to truancy.

“You are to vacate the school premises immediately after receiving this letter and signing out the final clearance form. We do hope that this will help you develop a changed attitude to life.”

Meanwhile, our correspondent noting that the school did not address the problem of bad feeding which the students had rejected.

One of the suspended students who spoke with CityMirrorNews expressed his disappointment over the action of the school authorities. He said the school authorities failed to address the grievances of the students which were on the poor feeding. Rather it suspended the nursing students indefinitely for a silent protest.

When CityMirrorNews put a call to the school Principal, Mr Alao Moses did not pick his calls for his reaction.
