Man bags 2 years imprisonment for stealing rice, wine in Osun

A 29-year-old man, Fatai Ganiyu, was on Monday sentenced to two years imprisonment for stealing 10 bowls of rice.
The charge sheet read in court stated that Ganiyu broke into the shop of a foodstuff dealer, Mrs Okeola Comfort at Oke-Ayepe area in Gbongan, Ayedaade Local Government area of Osun State, to steal the rice and for bottles of wine.
Ganiyu who committed the crime on October 29, 2016, pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of stealing and burglary. The value of the rice was put at N18, 000.
Police prosecutor, Mr Mireti Wilson told the court that Ganiyu was apprehended by night-guards who handed him over to the police.
According to Mireti, the offences contravened Sections 414 and 383, and punishable under Section 390 (9)of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol.11 Laws of Osun State 2003.
Counsel to the accused person, Mr Seye Oluyobi, prayed the court to temper justice with mercy on the accused person.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs Ademola Olowolagba convicted the accused and sentenced him to one year imprisonment on each count charge.
Olowolagba ordered that Ganiyu will serve the jail term cumulatively, which means he will spend two years in prison to serve the jail term.
