By Our Reporter
The Action Democratic Party, ADP, has called on the Plateau state governor, Rt Hon Simon Bako Lalong to declare state of emergency on security in the state urging him to address the security threats.
The party made the call in a press statement issued and signed by the Publicity Secretary, Plateau state chapter of the party, Hon Danjuma Dickson Auta urging the government to show seriousness in the fight against insecurity in the state.
ADP expressed worry at what it described “ethnic cleasing” in Rekwe Chongu, Rotsu, Ancha, Whike, Nkiedonwro, and Nbra Zongo, among others and the recent kidnapping of the paramount ruler of Bogghom, the Pankwal of Bogghom in Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State, HRH, Alhaji Shehu Suleiman.
“As we sympathetize with our chairman Gideon Adamu, and the peace loving people of Kanam LGA,
ADP in the state wish to call on Governor Simon Bako Lalong, to as a matter of urgency declare a state of emergency on security in the state and rise with the same spirit and commitment like the way it is fighting the deadly Covid-19 pandemic in the state.
“On the plan of government to offer palliative to citizens locked down as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we call on government to channel such to Irigwe chiefdom whose houses and food have been burned down by the attackers. We as a party that have our people at heart cannot continue to watch such irresponsibleness on the part of government and hereby call on government to come to the aid of these communities before they are completely wiped out.
“ADP in the state also want to appreciate the effort of the Operation Safe Haven for keeping to what is doing in the state, however, our party observed with dismay how the task force was unable to put a stop to all the attacks on the communities and also some unprofessional conduct of some officers working in these communities as there are cases of intimidation and brutality of members of these communities which they must be checked by higher authorities.”
The party called on the government to do everything possible to secure the release of the paramount ruler of the Bhoggom nation as soon as possible and fight isnsecurity with the same tenacity its fighting COVID-19 in the state.
