Senator Fadahunsi Decries Ife Fire Disaster, Charges FG To Empower Fire Service
The lawmaker representing Osun East Senatorial District, Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi has called on the federal government to equip the fire service to be more proactive and responsive.
The lawmaker made this call while reacting to the fire disaster at Oja tuntun in Ile Ife, Osun State via a statement by his Media adviser Sam Segun-Progress.
According to the statement which was made available to newsmen in Osogbo, the state capital, Friday, Fadahunsi said that it was sad, that despite the past experiences in the same market the government is yet to put measures in place to prevent this avoidable disaster.
“Why should traders in this market go through this agonising pain annually? Are there no people saddled with the responsibility of taking care of this market? Is there no arm of government generating revenue from this market, how is it difficult to put preventive measure in place? He lamented.
He also revealed that he recently sunk a borehole in the market to alleviate the pains of the traders and was installing Solar Panels before the lockdown.
Fadahunsi, however, called on the state government to rescue the people, and put mechanism in place that would prevent or curtail disasters in the future.
The lawmaker stated that the disaster happened at a very harsh time. He stated further that he and other well-meaning citizens are still struggling to fix the disaster caused by the storm in OAUTH, and giving palliative to ameliorate the pains of the lockdown in the state.
Fadahunsi
who is a member of the Special Duties Committee said that he has called on NEMA to come to the side of the OAUTH, and that he has further requested the agencies physical presence to the market to ascertain the damage.
He used the opportunity to call on the federal government to equip the disaster management agencies in the country and enjoined the citizens to be more vigilant.
