Housewife Pours Hot Water On Daughter-In-Law In Osun

The Nigeria Police on Monday arraigned a housewife, Saratu Oluwafemi, 49 in an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for allegedly pouring boiling water on her daughter-in-law’s stomach.

The accused person committed the offence in 2018 at No. 50, Akogun Street in Ile-Ife.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that accused person allegedly poured hot water on Abiodun Adebayo, 27, which led to sustaining severe burns on her abdomen.

He added that the accused person conducted herself in a manner that may likely cause the breach of public peace when she maliciously boiled water and poured on Adebayo.

The accused person who pleaded not guilty was charged for endangering life and conducting herself in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace.

The offence committed contravened the provisions of Sections 249(d) and 335 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defence counsel, Mr Matins Awe, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal term.

He pledged that his client would not jump bail, and would produce reliable sureties.

In his ruling, Magistrate Muhibah Olatunji granted the accused person to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The magistrate ordered that the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means, resides within the court jurisdiction and their addresses must be verified by the prosecutor.

The case was adjourned till February 20, 2020 for hearing.
