Aregbesola Charges Iwo People to Support their New Monarch

The Governor of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has called on the people of Iwo to extend their lofty support and cooperation towards the successful reign of the newly installed Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Rasheed Adewale Akanbi.

Governor Aregbesola gave the charge during the official turbaning and  installation of the new monarch.

Governor Aregbesola who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti stressed the need for the sons and daughters of the ancient town to work together with new monarch in his bid of taking the town to the greater heights.

Ogbeni Aregbesola expressed optimism over the emergence of Oba Rasheed Adewale, saying his reign would bring abundant blessing and progress to the people of the town.

He described the new monarch as a young man who places the love of his people, town and country above any personal interest.

Governor Aregbesola said though the town has suffered undue traditional vacuum and royal interregnum due to the litigations that enveloped the selection process, assuring that with the unanimous endorsement for the succession of Oba Rasheed Adewale, the new wind of change embedded with unlimited progress, promotion, growth and development have just been brought to the limelight.

According to him, “successful landing of any traditional ruler hinges significantly on the level of cooperation and support being extended to him by his people because a tree cannot successfully rule in the forest.

“Our people in Iwo have been clamouring for this moment since the demise of Oba Ashiru Olatubosun Tadese, but we thank God that His best time has helped to produce new monarch.

” The position of traditional ruler is not often times about what takes one to be enthroned, but is being measured by the rate of development recorded during one’s reign.

“In order to achieve tremendous landmark achievements, the people both sons and daughters, males and females, indigenes and non-indigenes of Iwo must support the new monarch as he begins to pilot the affairs of the town for all round transformation.

Governor Aregbesola however admonished the new traditional ruler to consolidate on the gigantic achievements and successes of his predecessors as the entire people of the community are looking forwards for his fruitful and fulfilled reign.

Earlier in his address, the Executive Secretary of Iwo Local Government, Hon. Kamorudeen Olabisi Alao, expressed delight over what he described as a new life for Iwo people as regards the emergence of Oba Rasheed Adewale Akanbi.

Hon. Alao said patience is the best solution to any challenge in life, reiterating that the significance of the installation of the new monarch was a product of extreme patience and perseverance exercised by the people of the ancient town.

He lauded the selection process of the new monarch, saying it has laid a solid foundation and template for others to emulate.

The Local Government Boss therefore appealed to the new Oluwo to live up to the expectations, yearnings and aspirations of Iwo people as they have suffered retrogressively over undue royal vacuum.

“What we witness today is the result of patience and tolerance exhibited by the good people of Iwo as their rare sacrifices had produced new era.

“Iwo is one of the towns in Yorubaland that can be proud of, simply because of  its uniqueness of installing and coronating a new monarch in Islamic way  through turbaning.

“We are proud of this as we charge our new traditional ruler to build upon what his ancestors did for the betterment of all”, Alao stated.

Subsequently, the newly installed monarch who stormed the ancient town amidst mammoth crowd was received at the palace by the head of Iwo Kingmakers and Oosa of Iwoland, Chief Yekinni Bello Orobimpe; Olosi of Iwoland, Chief Sunday Oyetunde Oyeniyi, Omosalu Oluwo, Chief Mutairu Alabi, Ologburo of Ogburo, Oba Asimiyu Agboluaje, Onisara of Feesu, Oba Moshood Oparonke among others.

The monarch who appeared gorgeously in white native attire was prominently welcomed with open-arms as sons and daughters of the ancient town thronged out in their numbers to receive the new monarch.

The new monarch who arrives the town around 12pm was stopped to a halt from Ori-Eru, toll-gate of Iwo/Osogbo road by the jubilant sons and daughters of the  town till he got to the palace.

His entourage was forcefully stopped by the commercial transporters at Odo-Ori junction who were seen singing, dancing and praising God over his emergence.

As he arrives at the palace around 2:00pm, his public appearance also acknowledged heavy presence of
tumultuous crowd comprises of market women and men, trade unions, professional groups, students, pupils, civil society organizations among others who trooped out enmasse to catch a glimpse of him as he is being unveiled.

Apparently, the new monarch who was turbaned by the muslim clerics and as well coronated by the Sobaloju of Iwoland, Chief Safiriyu Aremu was said to have broken the jinx of monarchical interregnum in the ancient town.

Confirming this, the Oosa of Iwoland, Chief Yekinni Bello Orobimpe said the emergence of Oba Rasheed Adewale has significantly put an end to the royal interregnum being experienced by the people of the town.

Chief Yekinni Bello who described the emergence of Prince Rasheed Adewale Akanbi as a round peg in the round hole, said the new era has just begun in the ancient town.

He appealed to the sons and daughter of Iwo to extend their utmost cooperation and support to the new monarch for general development and well being.
