Kogi Elections: Coalition Of Senatorial Candidates Step Down For Adeyemi, Declare Support For Bello
As the race to the rescheduled Kogi West senatorial election and governorship elections in Kogi state hots up, the coalition of west senatorial candidates for the election have dropped their ambitions for Senator Smart Adeyemi even as they have endorsed the Bello/Onoja candidature of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for the November 16, 2019 elections.
The coalition which is made up of candidates of political parties in the rescheduled election except candidate of the PDP senator, Dino Melaye made the disclosure to newsmen at a joint press conference with LGA Campaign Coordinators held on Tuesday in Lokoja.
The coalition stated that their decision to step down for Smart Adeyemi and to support Bello / Onoja ticket was informed by current political realities which has altered the politics of dominance by a particular ethnic group since the democratic governance in 1992.
The senatorial candidates who described their action of the past as inequitable, unjust, unfair to the principle of equality, adding that they have to drop their aspirations to lend credence to the new direction order of the present administration.
The Candidates said the election of Governor Yahaya Bello has automatically reversed the one ethnic group dominance of the gubernatorial seat and established a process for equitable power sharing that has started fostering unity fairness and equity among the tribes in the state.
The Candidates that were present at the Press conference includes, Olabode Adeyemi of African Democratic Congress, Princess Roseline Ibitoye of ACCORD Party, Chief Samuel Atteh of PPA, Olasunkanmi Aina Olayinka of CAP, others are Noah John Abiodun of PPN, Olasunkanmi Aina of PT and others.
Speaking on behalf of the candidates, Adeyemi Olabode John noted that they have analysed the factors that will inform voting pattern to include , previous political realities, ethnic considerations and other germane issues and took a decision they consider will be best for the state.
According to him, “As important stakeholders to the November 16th Gubernatorial election and Senatorial election, we have reviewed the obvious realities, appraised the political journey of the past and have resolved collectively, to defer our ambitions till future election year and support the All Progressive Congress (APC) for the November 16th Gubernatorial and Senatorial elections.
“By this decision we have instructed our agents in all the polling units, canvassers and coordinators across board to campaign, work, mobilize and vote for all the APC Candidates for the November 16th election” Omoluabi disclosed.
