As part of the effort to combat crime at the grassroot level, the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Osun state chapter has urged members of the public, especially youths who are interested in its anti-crime mantra, to visit its office for data capturing.

Commander of vigilantees, Mr Bello Wasiu Aderemi who made the disclosure in a press statement he personally signed and made available to journalists in Osogbo, said there was the need for all and sundry to rise against insecurity currently facing the country.

Aderemi urged youths who wish to join the VGN to come to its office located beside St James Primary School, Ayetoro area, Osogbo, for registration.

He said registered volunteers would undergo intelligence training, scheduled to take place at South Western University, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun state.

The commander said that potential members would be trained in different aspects of basic and intelligence skills by the police and the training would last for five days.

According to him, the five days training which will begin tomorrow Friday April 26 would be a morale booster to his members as it would afford them new knowledge to improve their skills on intelligence- gathering and other skills needed to tackle criminal activities such as banditry and kidnapping, raping, armed robbery among others.

He said the training is organized by VGN in collaboration with Institute of Corporate Security and Intelligence Studies, Counter Terrorism/Operational Department Training  and would be conducted simultaneously in all the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria.

He said the group’s main objective “is to prevent the escalation of crime which has now become the order of the day.”

“Cases such as cattle rustling, rape and kidnapping, armed robbery, are on the increase and we must put all hands together towards its prevention,” he said.

It would be recalled that about  296 members of VGN in Osun had last week undergone special training on intelligence in order to complement the efforts being made by other security agencies in tackling crime in the state.
