Jide Afolabi, Jos
A mammoth crowd gathered at the Nenfort Arena in Pankshin, Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau state today, Monday, as the Action Democratic Party, ADP, in the state officially flagged off its campaign for the 2019 general elections.
The state leader of the party, Hon Sam Gyang who is the National Auditor and represented the party’s National Chairman, Y.Y Sani chaired the occasion.
In his speech, the ADP state Chairman, Hon Gideon Adamu said that the state has been relegated because of insecurity. He noted that when a foreigner was visiting Nigeria in the past, the first point of call that comes to mind was Plateau.
He said that the party’s candidate, General Jon Temlong (rtd.) is a security expert and would bring peace to the state.
The representative of the ADP National Chairman presented the party’s flag to its candidate, General Jon Temlong who in turn presented the flag to Senatorial, House of Representatives and House of Assembly candidates.
While delivering their speech on behalf of the party’s candidates, Hon Alice Dimlong contesting for Pankshin North spoke on behalf of Assembly candidates. He promised that if elected, they would put Plateau first.
The House of Representatives candidate, Hon Samuel T. Pukat contesting for Mangu-Bokkos Federal constituency who spoke on behalf of his colleagues said that the campaign flagging off in Pankshin was ‘never a mistake.’ He said Pankshin is a place of wisdom and that the party has come to drink from the cup of the wisdom of J.D Gomwalk. “Freedom has come for women, freedom has come for youths”. He noted.
While speaking, the Plateau Central Senatorial candidate, Engr. Manasseh Damulak who spoke on behalf of his colleagues said that youths in their constituencies would be empowered if elected. “We want to sleep with our eyes closed. The only person that can give us security is Temlong.” He stated.
The Deputy Governorship candidate, Dr Daniel Dimlak Mwanmut said that their mission is to restore security and peace in the state. He said that a new Plateau is on the horizon. He noted that interest of everyone, “would be protected regardless of your tribe, religion or gender.”
The ADP Governorship candidate, Jon Temlong, in his address said, “It’s all about you and about the Plateau. It’s not about me, them, family but Plateau.”
He alleged that government is suppressing information about killings in the state. “People are being killed and when they are killed, the government suppressed them. Government buried people like chicken. Hotels on the Plateau are dead because there is no security.”
The retired Brigadier General said, “We are here to provide you with security and sustainable peace. For the past 17 to 18 years, Plateau has suffered. Plateau has been polarised. Plateau will be one under our administration.” He stated.
“We have provided security for Chad and Niger, we are not just talking. We will do it for Plateau state. We want to be just and fair to everybody. The Lalong government has failed in providing security and good governance. In all aspect, it has failed. PDP has failed us in the past too. We must not vote them.” He concluded.
