NGO Harps On Violence Free Election In Osun State
A youth-based organization promoting democratic governance, Youth Development and Policy Advocacy and Kimpact Development Initiative (KDI) have intensified efforts on ‘Vote Not Fight’ advocacy in Osun state ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.
The Executive Director of KDI, Mr Bukola Idowu, while speaking at Iwo Town Hall on Tuesday, said the focus of the advocacy was to sensitise the people of the state to vote peacefully and shun election violence before, during and after the elections.
According to him “The Vote Not Fight” advocacy is geared towards educating and mobilizing voters across the nation starting from Osun ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial election billed for 22nd of September 2018.
“This is new political dispensation that will give electorate another opportunity to decide who will govern them for the next four years and it is very important to come out en mass on the day of election without any forces and cast your vote for your the candidate of your choice.”
Idowu said the advocacy seeks for active participation of the youths of Osun in the electoral process, urging them to shun any activities capable of causing violence during election period.
His words “The sole aim of this campaign is to enlighten the youths and enhance their commitment to desist totally from every act of violence during elections, beginning with the imminent one in September.”
He admonished the voters to vote not to fight before, during and after election.” In some years back politicians used youths as instrument of violent, political thugs, ballot snatches and others lawless activities but nowadays youths should wake up and shun violence, fighting, politicians thugs during. ”
On his part, Independent National Electoral Commission INEC voters representative, Mr Oyeleke Davide, said measure has put in to conduct free and fair election in the state.
He assured Osun electorate on adequate security during the election, also the commission has prepare all necessary things that can contribute to success of the election.
He further said that the election materials will be at the ground of poll units on election day by 8:00am and election will close in 2:00pm to have proper collation
