Successful Conclusion Of Ekiti Governorship Election Plus To Deepening Participatory Democracy-Adetimehin
A House of Representatives aspirants in Ekiti South Federal Constituency one under the platform of Accord party, Prince Abiodun Adetimehin has described the successful conclusion of the Ekiti governorship election as plus to deepening participatory democracy in Nigeria.
In a statement in Ikere Ekiti, Prince Adetmehin said despite the obvious monetisation of the exercise by major political parties and the perceived helplessness of security agents and INEC, the large turn out of voters was a confirmation that the people were becoming more conscious about their power to determine who govern them.
He submitted that the major lesson learnt from the process was that with time the scourge of vote buying would end, just as violent poll was becoming a thing of the past.
According to him, “political parties, electoral umpire and security operatives must come together to end the flagrant vote negotiation on the field, while also expressing the believe that once elected officials perform creditably, the challenge of poverty which diminish the worth of people and influenced their vulnerability to monetised voting would come to past.
The House of Representatives hopeful also congratulated the governor elect and urged him to be magnanimousin victory, as well as complete all ongoing projects and clear backlog of arrears of workers salary since its the people that suffer from the problem of abandoned projects.
Similarly, Prince Adetmehin also saluted the gallant spirit if the PDP candidate Prof. Kolapo Olusola foe pulling such a huge number despite being declared winner in just four local governments.
He expressed confidence that Ikere Ekiti would produce the next governor of the state as he pleaded with natives of the ancient town to remain united ahead of next dispensation.
Prince Adetmehin also congratulated the Accord Party’s candidate, Chief Abiodun Aluko for his resilience doggednes and courage which he demonstrated though out the electionering which took him to the 177 wards and 16 local governments of the state.
