Senator Omoworare Mobilises For The Completion Of Ife/Osu Dual Carriage Road
The Senator Representing Osun East Senatorial District, Babajide Omoworare with the officials from the Ministry of Works, Power and Housing and representatives of the contractor, Kopek a Construction company on Saturday inspected the abandoned Ife/Osu Dual Carriage Road Project to ensure speedy completion of the project.
Speaking, Engr Sikiru Olalekan Busari, the Highway Zonal Director, Southwest, of the Federal Ministry of Works, Power and Housing stated that the project was stalled as a result of paucity of fund and the high value of compensation projected for proposed demolished structures that will ensue as a result of the expansion of the road. “We are here on the instruction of the Honorable Minister and the intervention of Senator Omoworare”.
The road project which commenced in year 2010 has been abandoned for the past six years.
Senator Omoworare who led the team to the site for accessiment said, “I was unable to get the government’s attention to the road between 2012 and 2015. In the last two years that budgetary provisions were made for the project, issues of revaluation and the value of the compensation to be paid raised its ugly head”.
Omoworare further explained that the road inspection is to ensure speedy completion of the project.
According to him, “This exercise is to allow the government take a meticulous look at the road again so as to resolve all knotty issues and remobilize to site earnestly for the benefit of our people in Atakumosa and Ile-Ife”.
He thanked FERMA and Mr. Tunde Fashola, the Minister for Works, Power and Housing for responding to his request to fix the alternate route that links the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University to the heart of the ancient city of Ile-Ife.
Othe project inspected is the completed rehabilitation of Hezekiah Oluwasanmi Road (Road 7) with the officials of FERMA.
