2019: Ex-NUJ Scribe Declares For Senate In Ebonyi

Chief Abia Onyike, a former deputy national president of the Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ), on Tuesday said he will contest for Ebonyi south senatorial seat in 2019 general elections.

Chief Sonni Ogbuorji, who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), is currently representing the zone. He is currently serving his second tenure.

The position has been zone to Afikpo south where Ogbuorji and Onyeike hail from.

Ogbuorji, however, recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Onyike, who was also pioneer chairman of Ebonyi State Council of the union, made his intension known to journalists in Abakaliki.

He noted that since the Ebonyi south senatorial seat had been zoned to Afikpo south local government area of the state, the slot would naturally go to his area, the Lower Edda, adding that this would make it easier for him to emerge victorious.

The former Commissioner for Information and Special Adviser to former Governor Martin Elechi on Media said he would effectively represent the people of his zone if voted into power, adding that the zone had not been properly represented in recent time.

Onyike, who was director of Media and Publicity of Divine Mandate Organization, a campaign organization of former Governor Dave Umahi in 2015 general elections, said his experience in both politics and media would distinguish him among every other person that may be eyeing the seat.
