Shitte Protesters Alleged Members Killed By Police Bullets
Two members of the shite Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN protesting the continuous detention of Ibrahim El-Zakyzaky were allegedly killed by police bullets while many others were injured.
The two protesters were killed when police men from the FCT command who were deployed to dispersed the protesters were alleged to have shot tear gas and live bullets into the crowd.
In a telephone chat, the spokesperson for the Shitte sect, Ibrahim Musa said followers of the Shitte leader, Sheikh El-Zakyzaky were on the third day of their 5-day peaceful protest to call international attention to the continuous incarceration of their leader whose health has been confirmed to be failing but without access to his doctors and proper treatment.
Musa said, “Only one corpse is with us, his name is Abdullahi Muhammad. His skull was smashed by bullet today.”
Meanwhile, the Nigeria police have denied any unprofessional act during the process if quashing the protest.
According to the PPRO of the FCT command of the Nigeria police, ASP Manzah in a statement, the police drafted its men to disperse the protesters when it was becoming clear that their actions were causing security threat to residents of the FCT.
The statement further said that petrol-bombs were found with the protesters, 52 of whom were arrested while police officers were also attacked.
