Hotel Manager Remanded In Prison Over Alleged Abduction, Attempted Rape

A 52-year-old hotel manager of Morack Hotel in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, George Morakinyo,was on Wednesday ordered to be remanded at Ilesa prison by a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, over an alleged attempted rape of a lady he allegedly abducted.

The Prosecutor,Rasaki Lamidi told the court that Morakinyo sometimes in the Month of September, 2017 at Morack Hotel, Osogbo seduced Rotimi Elizabeth to his custody with the intent of having canal knowledge with her and for engaging her in prostitution service.

He said the accused on the aforementioned place and date , abducted the victim without the consent of her parents and unlawfully dealt with her during the period.

Lamidi argued that the offence committed by the accused contravened Sections 22A(1)(2), 222, 225, 226 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Volume.II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2003.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the four-count charge preferred against him.

Counsel to the accused, Barrister Bola Abimbola applied for the bail of his client in the most liberal terms, saying that the offences are bailable.

Objecting the bail application, Prosecutor implored the court to turn down the the bail application on the ground
that “Elizabeth is currently receiving medical treatment”.

In her ruling, Magistrate Adenike Olowolagba ordered the remand of George Morakinyo at Ilesa prison custody and adjourned the case till November 22,for hearing.

Olowolagba, afterward, ordered the defense counsel to file a formal bail application ahead of next trial.
