TimeNews Trains 100 Muslim Youths In Journalism

Not fewer than one hundred Muslim Youths have been trained in basic journalism course, as part of efforts to awaken media awareness among Muslim Ummah.

The three day training was organised by Times Communications (Publisher of timenewsng.com)  in collaboration with the Islamic Centre for Research and human development, Iwo, to encourage young Muslims who have interest in journalism, purse career in the profession.

Addressing participants at end of the training, the special guest,the Head Corporate Communications Skye Bank Plc,Mr Rasheed Bolarinwa facilitator charged them to utilized every knowledge gained during the course of the training.

Bolarinwa harped on the need for youths especially Muslim Youths to be engaging in activities that can promote the image of Islam in the right manner, as against the world narratives.

He decried high level of youths involvements in unwholesome and illegal activities “all for the love of getting rich quick”, saying there is no short cut to success.

While commending the organizers of the training for what he called “noble and great development “, Mr Bolarinwa tasked them to not relent in their efforts at projecting Islam rightly, and creating media awareness among Muslims especially, the younger ones.

He further urged Muslims youths to stay away from acts Capable of bringing disrepute to the image of Islam.

” Youths of nowadays are after money,but,they don’t want to work,that’s why you that most of the reported cases of illegal activities like killing for rituals, Cyber fraud and the likes, in Nigeria today involve the youths.

“As Muslim Youths, we need to work extra hard and ensure that whatever we are doing are legal. People must see Islam in and through us.

“What the organizers have done is highly commendable, and I must implore them not to stop there” He said.

During his lecture titled “News Gathering and Writing” a veteran journalist Alhaji Toyin Yusuf of the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation told the participants that “there may not be total objectivity in news, as human beings are subjective in nature, but, a journalist must be fair”

Another resource person and a lecturer from the Department of Mass Communication, Fountain University Osogbo, Mr Rasheed Adebiyi said “There is information overload these days, hence the need to the need for anyone wanting to become a journalist must be ready to work hard”

Mr Adebiyi who also lauded the efforts of the organizers of the programme said “the training would expose the participants with the needed skills to make a difference in their future careers”

In his own words, the Kwara State Bureau Chief of Television continental TVC, Alhaji Ibrahim Alege challenged the participants to make judicious use of every knowledge acquired at the training, saying, it will go a long way in helping them navigate their ways in the world of journalism.

Earlier in their addresses the management of Time Communications Mr Rasheed Rasheed and Ms Opeyemi Olawale, said the need to have more Muslims journalists in the country, majorly informed the training.

They expressed confidence that the participants at the end of the training would have gained one or two things, capable of shaping their thoughts and decisions while venturing into the profession.

While presenting certificates of participation to the participants at the end of the training, the Director of the Islamic Centre for Research and human Development and National President of Jama’at Ta’awunil Muslimeen, Sheikh Daood Imran Molaasan, urged the participants to show more interest in Journalism and be the voice of the voiceless”.
